Hands-On Learning : Paint the Popcorn

                          Milk Paint Popcorn Rainbowhttp://kidsactivitiesblog.com/64767/milk-paint-popcorn-rainbow

This simple craft activity is very therapeutic and loads of fun. You will need popped up popcorn, chart paper, colours (water colours/food colours in milk, etc ) of your choice, brush and glue. The image shows a rainbow of coloured popcorn painted with food colour  mixed in milk.

Take a craft paper and draw a semi circle with glue and stick popcorn on it. Draw as little as two semi circles or go for seven to make a complete rainbow. Then use a brush and colour the popcorn. This works in developing fine motor skills, pincer grasp, eye hand coordination and visual skills.

If you want try something more , start with shapes, like make a square on a chart paper with glue, stick popcorn on it and colour it. You can even try making alphabets, numbers similarly. A very simple and very effective activity for our kids. Don’t you agree?

Hands-On Learning : With Push Pins

Push Pins strengthen tripod fingers for writing -- Repinned by @PediaStaff – Please Visit  ht.ly/63sNt for all our pediatric therapy pins: http://www.playathomemomllc.com/2013/03/getting-creative-with-push-pins/

Push Pins are great for developing pincer grasp, which is essential for developing good handwriting skills as well as eye-hand coordination. Push pins are easily available and don’t cost a lot. This is the one we use at home :

Ideally, you need a cork board for this activity, but we didn’t have one at home, so we used thermacol sheets we had. You can even use a cardboard as base for this activity. But please always make sure that your kiddo is closely monitored during this activity as the push pins are very sharp! You can draw alphabets on a paper and mount it on a cork board/thermacol sheet/cardboard and the kid has to place the push pins along the lines.

http://testyyettrying.blogspot.in/2012/02/pinning-version-20.html

You can also draw/trace shapes and place push pins along the lines. Even removing the push pins from the board is a good fine motor activity!

Hands-On Learning : Logic Colours With Sticks

jeu de logique avec des bâtonnets et des gommettes: http://www.slideshare.net/estherrsantos/dots-41352522

This activity is one of my personal favourites. The link I shared above will take you to a Spanish website which shared this activity. I could’t translate it, but the image was pretty self – explanatory, so tried it out at home and we loved it! You just need plain Popsicle sticks, paper and sketch pens for this activity. We got popsicle sticks from here :

Take a white paper and using sketch pens, draw circles in colours and fill them completely as shown in the image above. We made four /five rows of such coloured circles. Next take plain popsicle sticks and draw these circles patterns matching the ones on the paper. The kid has to match the patterns on the stick with an exact match on the paper. Better start off with two or three circles to match horizontally and you can make it as complex as you want by choosing alphabets/numbers/words/shapes, instead of circles. The beauty of this activity is that you can make it as simple or as complex as needed to match your child.

This activity is very good for your kiddo and develops visual tracking skills, thinking skills and problem solving skills.
