Play & Learn - Symmetree

It's been a few weeks since I wrote a post for the category - Play and Learn, that features amazing free online games hand picked for you and your kiddo. Today, let's learn more about a similar game - Symmetree that you can play without even creating an account on my favourite educational games website : abcya.com

Learning about symmetry is a good way to practice visual skills and thinking skills in a fun way. This game starts off with a very brief introduction of symmetry. There are three levels. In the first level, your kiddo has to drag and drop the part of the leaf that is symmetrical to the given image and completes it. Then we move onto rotational symmetry in the next level - your kiddo has to find logs that are symmetrical even when they are rotated.

In the third level, your kiddo has to rotate the log - clockwise or counter clock wise so that it gives a symmetrical cut when chopped and then select - chop. Be careful as you may come across one which have no symmetry too!

Hope you find this game recommendation useful.

Play & Learn - Find The technology Game

Technology is an integral part of our lives. Teaching our kids about the many tech tools is an essential part of their education. But there are so many of them that I often wished there was a fun way to introduce them. As always, abcya.com, came to the rescue! In this game, we ae reviewing today, there are two modes - Review and Search.

In the review mode, kids are introduced to various tech tools with a brief introduction. For example, for camera, there is an image and an a short note that explains that it is a device that records images in the form of photographs. There are 21 devices/tech tools in this game.

In the Search mode, there is a room full of devices/tech tools and your kiddo has to search for say, a computer mouse and then select the option that best describes it from among three:

- A little animal that squeaks when scared
- A battery that allows you to charge your computer and
- A piece of hardware that is used to control the cursor on your computer screen.

Interesting, right? As well as challenging and fun. The search is also great for developing visual skills and thinking skills.

Play & Learn : Calendar Game

Calendar game from the house of abcya.com is a free online interactive game that will help our children learn many essential life skills. In this game, first the kiddo has to choose ten activities from among eighteen options available; some of them are beach, different games, art, video games, music, zoo and many more. Once the selection is completed, he/she has to read the clues given and select the correct date on the calendar. For instance, art class is on second Saturday of the month, then he/she has to select the appropriate date and the activity is scheduled. This way, there are ten clues to schedule the ten activities selected earlier.

This fosters an essential life skill of learning to use calendar and schedule different activities; a skill that will serve them well in daily life.

Hold The Phone - An Idiom Game

Hold The Phone - An Idiom game is the first post in the Play And Learn Series, which will feature free games across educational websites. These games are hand picked for our children. Though I regularly post about different educational websites, often a few gems like this game  get lost in the crowd. This series is an endeavor to help parents and teachers by introducing them to fun and educational games that are free and instantly accessible across devices. Now let's get started on our first game in this series - Hold the phone!

Teaching idioms is very essential component of the social emotional learning for our children on the spectrum. This amazing game not only teaches idioms but also introduces emojis to our children, an important part of today's social interaction. Each session has six idioms. First, the kids have to recreate the literal meaning of the idiom using emojis. Second, they have to choose the figurative interpretation of the idiom. Third, once all the six idioms in the session are completed, they have to choose the correct idiom for the given sentence from the multiple choices given. A very comprehensive approach, isn't it ?  Since a picture is worth a thousand words ( couldn't stop myself from using an idiom 😊) take a look:

I hope you find this post useful, looking forward to your feedback. You can access this game on abcya.com   A huge thank you for this wonderful game!
